Motions Respecting Senate Amendments to Bills

C-10
An Act to enact the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act and to amend the State Immunity Act, the Criminal Code, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and other Acts

March 9, 2012 — Resuming consideration of the motion of Mr. Nicholson (Minister of Justice), seconded by Mr. Fantino (Associate Minister of National Defence), — That the amendments made by the Senate to Bill C-10, An Act to enact the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act and to amend the State Immunity Act, the Criminal Code, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and other Acts, be now read a second time and concurred in;
Deferred recorded division on the amendment of Mr. Harris (St. John's East), seconded by Mr. Sandhu (Surrey North), — That the motion be amended by deleting all of the words after the word “That” and substituting the following:
“a message be sent to the Senate to acquaint their Honours that the House disagrees with the amendments made by the Senate to Bill C-10, An Act to enact the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act and to amend the State Immunity Act, the Criminal Code, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and other Acts, because relying on the government to list states which support or engage in terrorism risks unnecessarily politicizing the process of obtaining justice for victims of terrorism.”.
Recorded division on the amendment — deferred until Monday, March 12, 2012, at the ordinary hour of daily adjournment, pursuant to Standing Order 45.
Voting on the main motion — immediately after the amendment is disposed of, pursuant to Order made Wednesday, March 7, 2012, under the provisions of Standing Order 78(3).
