The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 1:11 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Irwin Cotler, Nina Grewal, Russ Hiebert, Wayne Marston, Ève Péclet, Scott Reid and David Sweet.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Melissa Radford, Analyst; Erin Shaw, Analyst.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That notwithstanding the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, witnesses be given ten (10) minutes for their opening statement; and

That, at the discretion of the Chair, during the questionning of witnesses there be allocated six (6) minutes to a member from each party as follows: Conservative Party, New Democratic Party, Conservative Party, Liberal Party, Conservative Party, New Democratic Party, Conservative Party.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee study the urgent human rights situation of the persecution of the Copt community in Egypt and Christian minorities in Iraq and Iran, in light of the pattern of persecution of Christian minorities in each country; and

That up to two meetings be allocated to the study.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee hold hearings on the persecution of the Copt community in Egypt and Christian minorities in Iraq and Iran, on Tuesday, November 15 and Tuesday, November 22, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That witnesses be invited to appear before the Subcommittee in relation to its study on the human rights situation in Sri Lanka on Thursday, November 17, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite witnesses to appear in relation to its study on the sexual violence against women used systematically as a weapon of war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, on Tuesday, December 13, 2011.

 

At 2:10 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
