The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met in a televised session at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Pat Martin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Armstrong, Denis Blanchette, Kelly Block, Alexandre Boulerice, Peter Braid, Ron Cannan, Pat Martin, Hon. John McCallum, Bernard Trottier, Nycole Turmel and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Chris Alexander for Jacques Gourde, Matthew Kellway for Alexandre Boulerice and LaVar Payne for Jacques Gourde.

 

Other Members present: Jack Harris.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Édison Roy-César, Analyst; Maxime-Olivier Thibodeau, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence; Hon. Peter Gordon MacKay, Minister of National Defence.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2011-2012: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 under NATIONAL DEFENCE referred to the Committee on Friday, June 3, 2011.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2011-2012: Vote 10a under NATIONAL DEFENCE referred to the Committee on Thursday, June 9, 2011.
 

Minister MacKay made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:45 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:49 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Committee resumed consideration of Main and Supplementary (A) Estimates 2011-2012. Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the appearance of the Minister of Health, with her relevant officials, regarding the 2011–12 Main Estimates be rescheduled to Monday, June 20, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; and that, consequently, the appearance of the President of the Treasury Board be rescheduled to Monday, June 20, 2011, at 3:30 p.m., provided that, in the case of the Minister of Health and the President of the Treasury Board, they appear only for the first hour of the meeting, and that the officials from their respective departments remain for the second hour of the meeting.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
