LIST OF RECOMMENDATIONS Recommendation 1 The Committee recommends that the Government of Canada continue to explore the feasibility of regulating ballast water for lake ships internal to the Great Lakes St. Lawrence basin and that any potential regulations be harmonized with those of the United States. Recommendation 2 The Committee recommends that the Government of Canada develop a hull fouling policy. Recommendation 3 The Committee recommends that the Government of Canada work with provincial and territorial partners to increase enforcement to prevent the illegal live trade of invasive species, such as Asian carps and Northern snakeheads. Recommendation 4 The Committee recommends that the Government of Canada continue to work with the Government of the United States to expand their various efforts to restrict the spread of aquatic invasive species, especially Asian carps, into Canada. Recommendation 5 The Committee recommends that the Government of Canada network with international partners to determine best practices for the management of aquatic invasive species. Recommendation 6 The Committee recommends that the Government of Canada support the development of new methods to eradicate sea lamprey from the Great Lakes. Recommendation 7 The Committee recommends that the Government of Canada develop a comprehensive long-term framework and funding strategy for the management of aquatic invasive species. |
