The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Moore, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Armstrong, Gordon Brown, Paul Calandra, Andrew Cash, Matthew Dubé, Parm Gill, Jim Hillyer, Hon. Rob Moore, Pierre Nantel, Scott Simms, Rathika Sitsabaiesan and Terence Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst. House of Commons: Julie Lalande Prud'homme, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Olympic Committee: Marcel Aubut, President; Christopher R. Overholt, Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General; Caroline Assalian, Chief Sport Officer. Own the Podium: Anne Merklinger, Chief Executive Officer; Joanne Mortimore, Director, Planning and Operations.

 

By unanimous consent, on motion of Matthew Dubé, it was agreed, — That notwithstanding the 48 hours notice routine motion, Matthew Dubé be allowed to move his motion.

 

On motion of Matthew Dubé, it was agreed, — That the Committee congratulate Canadian mixed martial arts athlete, Georges St-Pierre, for defending his UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) welterweight world champion title by winning his fight on November 15, 2012, in Montréal.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 4, 2012, the Committee commenced its post-mortem on the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.
 

Marcel Aubut and Anne Merklinger made statements and, with Christopher R. Overholt and Caroline Assalian, answered questions.

 

At 5:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:03 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages or his senior officials to appear before the Committee in relation to the 2012-2013 Supplementary Estimates (B) before Tuesday, December 4, 2012, for one (1) hour.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the President of CBC/Radio-Canada to appear before the Committee and inform the members of his vision of the future and mandate of CBC/Radio-Canada .

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee re-invite the Canada Media Fund and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to appear before the Committee on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 in relation to its study on the Canadian entertainment software industry.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages or his officials to appear before the Committee in relation to the 2012-2013 Supplementary Estimates (B) on Thursday, November 29, 2012 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

It was agreed, — That on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procudure meet to discuss future business.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism to appear before the Committee on Thursday, December 6, 2012, in relation to its study on the Canadian entertainment software industry for two (2) hours.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite representatives from Gamercamp Toronto, Silicone Sisters, the University of Alberta and Xbox Canada on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 in relation to its study on the Canadian entertainment software industry.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
