The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Don Davies, Shelly Glover, Mark Holland, Andrew Kania, Dave MacKenzie, Phil McColeman and Maria Mourani.

 

Acting Members present: Niki Ashton for Don Davies, Lois Brown for Brent Rathgeber, Robert Carrier for Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Wayne Easter for Borys Wrzesnewskyj and Daryl Kramp for Rick Norlock.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant; Anna Gay.

 

Witnesses: Correctional Service Canada: Liette Dumas-Sluyter, Corporate Services; Pushkar Godbole, Technical Services and Facilities; John Sargent, CORCAN; Ross Toller.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, the Committee commenced its study of prison farm closures and food provisionment.
 

Ross Toller made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

Andrew Kania gave notice of the following motion:

That the Committee calls upon the Minister of Public Safety to table forthwith the Strategic Review document referred to by Correctional Service Canada officials on Thursday, March 25, 2010, during their testimony before the Committee.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
