The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Luc Desnoyers, Shelly Glover, Mark Holland, Andrew Kania, Dave MacKenzie, Phil McColeman, Maria Mourani, Rick Norlock, Brent Rathgeber and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

Acting Members present: Joe Comartin for Don Davies and Candice Hoeppner for Phil McColeman.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst. House of Commons: Jean-François Lafleur, Legislative Clerk; Wayne Cole, Legislative Clerk.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, March 3, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-391, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Firearms Act (repeal of long-gun registry).
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee consider various motions from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2010.

 

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of Mark Holland, — That this Committee, pursuant to Standing Order 97.1 (1), recommends that the House of Commons do not proceed further with Bill C-391, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Firearms Act (repeal of long-gun registry), because the Committee has heard sufficient testimony that the bill will dismantle a tool that promotes and enhances public security and the safety of Canadian police officers.

 

At 4:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:51 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Joe Comartin, Luc Desnoyers, Mark Holland, Andrew Kania, Maria Mourani, Borys Wrzesnewskyj — 6; NAYS: Shelly Glover, Candice Hoeppner, Dave MacKenzie, Rick Norlock, Brent Rathgeber — 5.

 

At 4:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
