MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 30

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 8:58 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Rodney Weston, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Raynald Blais, Ron Cannan, Rodger Cuzner, Fin Donnelly, Randy Kamp, Yvon Lévesque, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Joyce Murray, Devinder Shory, John Weston and Rodney Weston.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the snow crab industry in Atlantic Canada and Quebec.

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

At 10:28 a.m., the Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

The Chair presented the Fourth Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

1. That the Committee proceed with the work plan outlined below while taking into consideration that modifications to the calendar might arise.

2. That the Committee hold a two (2) hour hearing on the Fish Lake/Taseko mine project by calling to appear representatives of the Esketemc First Nation and the Xeni Gwet’in First Nation as well as relevant officials from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans; that this meeting be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010.

3. That the first hour of the meeting of November 25, 2010, be held to study the Order in Council Appointment of David Bevan to the position of Associate Deputy Minister at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans; that the second hour of the meeting be devoted to hearing from the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, David Bevan and other relevant departmental officials on the current issues facing the Fisheries and Oceans sector.

It was agreed, — That the Fourth Report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be concurred in.

At 10:51 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
