Message on Estimates

Her Excellency the Governor General hereby transmits to the House of Commons the Supplementary Estimates (A) of sums required to defray expenses of the public service of Canada for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2010 and, in accordance with section 54 of the Constitution Act, 1867, recommends those Estimates to the House of Commons.

First Reading of Senate Public Bills

Pursuant to Standing Order 69(2), on motion of Mr. Woodworth (Kitchener Centre), seconded by Mr. Mayes (Okanagan—Shuswap), Bill S-216, An Act to amend the Federal Sustainable Development Act and the Auditor General Act (involvement of Parliament), was read the first time and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Baird (Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities), seconded by Mr. Merrifield (Minister of State (Transport)), — That Bill C-7, An Act to amend the Marine Liability Act and the Federal Courts Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts, be now read a third time and do pass.

The debate continued.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Mr. Russell (Labrador), seconded by Mr. Wrzesnewskyj (Etobicoke Centre), moved the following amendment, — That the motion be amended by deleting all the words after the word "That" and substituting the following:

“Bill C-8, An Act respecting family homes situated on First Nation reserves and matrimonial interests or rights in or to structures and lands situated on those reserves, be not now read a second time but that it be read a second time this day six months hence.”.
