The Subcommittee on the Automotive Industry in Canada of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in a televised session at 6:31 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Michael D.Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Michael D. Chong, Mike Lake, Brian Masse, Francis Valeriote and Robert Vincent.

 

Other Members present: Colin Carrie, Joe Comartin, Martha Hall Findlay, Mike Wallace and Jeff Watson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Auto21 Inc.: Peter R. Frise, Chief Executive Officer and Scientific Director, AUTO21 Network of Centres of Excellence. Chrysler Canada Inc.: Reid Bigland, President and Chief Executive Officer; Lorraine Shalhoub, Vice-President, General Counsel, External Affairs and Public Policy. Chrysler LLC: Thomas LaSorda, Vice Chairman and President. Doucet McBride LLP: Percy Ostroff, Partner. DesRosiers Automotive Consultants Inc.: Dennis DesRosiers, President.

 
Pursuant to the motion adopted in the Standing Committee on Industry Science and Technology on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, the Subcommittee resumed its study of the crisis faced by the automotive industry in Canada.
 

Reid Bigland and Thomas LaSorda made statements and answered questions.

 

At 7:53 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:55 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Percy Ostroff, Dennis DesRosiers and Peter R. Frise made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:44 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget for the study of the crisis faced by the automotive industry in Canada in the amount of $18,500, be adopted.

 

At 10:05 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
