Monday, November 23, 2009

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 214, Wellington Building, the Chair, the Hon. Michael D.Chong, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bouchard, Gordon Brown, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Siobhan Coady, Marc Garneau, Mike Lake, Brian Masse, Anthony Rota, Dave Van Kesteren, Robert Vincent, Mike Wallace and Chris Warkentin.

Acting Members present: Francis Valeriote for Siobhan Coady.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw ; Dillan Theckedath.

Witnesses: Canadian Federation of Independent Business: Dan Kelly, Legislative Affairs; Ted Mallett, Research. Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Jeff Brownlee, Public Affairs and Business Development.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, November 2, 2009, the Committee commenced its study of the recent economic performance of small and medium-size enterprises in Canada.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 4:13 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), the sitting was suspended.

At 5:14 p.m., the Committee resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Minister of State (Western Economic Diversification), the Minister of State (Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec), and the Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), be invited to appear before the Committee on or before December 2, 2009, to discuss the Supplementary Estimates of their respective departments.

At 5:16 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
