The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 3:02 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Kevin A.Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Lois Brown, Johanne Deschamps, Paul Dewar, Peter Goldring, Francine Lalonde, Deepak Obhrai, Glen Douglas Pearson and Kevin Sorenson.

 

Acting Members present: Royal Galipeau for Hon. Jim Abbott, Brian Jean for James Lunney, Hon. Dan McTeague for Bernard Patry and Hon. Joseph Volpe for Hon. Bob Rae.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Jean-Marie David, Committee Clerk. Library of Parliament: Jennifer Bird, Analyst; Allison Goody, Analyst; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the request by four (4) members of the Committee to discuss their request to consider holding a meeting to study the treatment of Canadians abroad by the Government of Canada.
 

At 3:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:04 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold a meeting today, Wednesday, August 26, 2009, between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m to examine the treatment of Canadians abroad by the Government of Canada.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold subsequent meetings as soon as possible concerning the subject matter of the treatment of Canadians abroad by the Government of Canada.

 

At 3:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
