The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Rod Bruinooge, Dean Del Mastro, Ruby Dhalla, Nina Grewal, Carole Lavallée, Roger Pomerleau, Pablo Rodriguez, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, Scott Simms and Tim Uppal.

 

Acting Members present: Bruce Stanton for Shelly Glover.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Carolina Mingarelli, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Rogers Communications Inc.: Phil Lind, Vice-Chairman; Anthony Viner, President and Chief Executive officer, Rogers Media; Kenneth Engelhart, Senior Vice-President, Regulatory and Chief Privacy Officer; Colette Watson, Vice-President, Rogers Television. Quebecor Media Inc.: Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and Chief Executive Officer, Quebecor and Quebecor Media Inc.; Pierre Dion, President and Chief Executive Officer, Groupe TVA; Serge Sasseville, Vice-President, Corporate and Institutional Affairs.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Dean Del Mastro moved, — That the budget for the study on the evolution of the television industry and its impact on local communities, in the amount of $39,200, be adopted and that the Chair seek the necessary funds.

 

It was agreed, — That the budget for the study on the evolution of the television industry and its impact on local communities, in the amount of $39,200, be adopted and that the Chair seek the necessary funds.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, the Committee commenced its study on the evolution of the television industry in Canada and its impact on local communities.
 

Phil Lind and Colette Watson made statements and, with Anthony Viner and Kenneth Engelhart, answered questions.

 

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Pierre Karl Péladeau made a statement and, with Pierre Dion, answered questions.

 

At 5:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
