The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Rick Casson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Dawn Black, Steven Blaney, Robert Bouchard, John Cannis, Rick Casson, Hon. Denis Coderre, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn, James Lunney, Hon. Joe McGuire and Anthony Rota.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst; Wolf Koerner, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

On Thursday, November 15, 2007, the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure agreed:

• That the Standing Committee continue its study of Procurement and associated processes from the First Session of the 39th Parliament;

o That the evidence and documentation received by the Standing Committee on National Defence during the First Session of the 39th Parliament in relation to its study of Procurement and associated processes be taken into consideration by the Committee in this session;

o That the Minister of National Defence be invited to appear before the committee regarding its study of Procurement and associated processes; and,

o That the Committee present a report to the House before 2008.

• That the Minister of National Defence be invited to appear before the committee regarding its study of Supplementary Estimates (A) 2007-2008.

• That the Department of National Defence be requested to provide monthly briefings to the Standing Committee on the status and progress of Canada’s involvement in Afghanistan.

• That the Department of National Defence be requested to provide a briefing, in one meeting and before 2008, on security preparations for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

• That, in 2008, the Standing Committee conduct a study of Health services provided to CF personnel with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder.

• That the Standing Committee travel to Afghanistan.

 

Denis Coderre moved, — That the First Report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on National Defence be adopted.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 11:14 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:17 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

At 12:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
