The Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Steven Blaney, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Yvon Godin, Raymond Gravel, Denis Lebel, Pierre Lemieux, Richard Nadeau, Daniel Petit, Pablo Rodriguez and Brent St. Denis.

 

Acting Members present: Francis Scarpaleggia for Hon. Denis Coderre.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, Analyst; Jean Dupuis, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Jean-Claude D'Amours, it was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Official Languages convene the broadcasters of CTV, TQS and RDS before the Committee on Official Languages in order to explain how they plan to offer complete broadcasting of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games in both official languages across the country.

 

At 9:25 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:26 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 9:29 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:30 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

On motion of Richard Nadeau, it was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Official Languages write to the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Status of Women and Official Languages and Minister for La Francophonie, Josée Verner, to enquire as to how her department intends to use the $30 million announced in the March 2007 budget to help official language minority communities.

 

At 9:37 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:38 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on March 13, 2008, the Committee resumed its study of the Canada-Community Agreements.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 10:56 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
