CONCLUSION For too many years, employers and employees have been forced to pay premiums in excess of those required to cover the cost of the EI program. While members of the Committee and most witnesses who appeared before us during our study on Part 7 of Bill C-50, the Budget Implementation Act 2008, believe that the federal government's proposal to correct this inequity is a good first step, more remains to be done. It is our hope that the recommendations in this report will encourage the federal government to further strengthen EI's premium rate-setting process. Given the expeditiousness which the Committee felt was required in conducting this study, all members of the Committee thank the groups and individuals who, on short notice, agreed to share their views and expertise with us on this very important matter. |
