A PRODUCTIVE START TO THE 39TH PARLIAMENT
Ottawa, June 23, 2006 -
OTTAWA: The Public Accounts Committee was very active during the first months of the 38th Parliament, holding twelve public meetings with witnesses and issuing the following seven reports with a total of 30 recommendations.
- Report 1 - Public Accounts of Canada 2005.
- Report 2 - Passport Office - Passport Services.
- Report 3 - Main Estimates 2006-2007: Vote number 20 under FINANCE.
- Report 4 - Consideration of the Governement response to the Tenth Report of the 38th Parliament.
- Report 5 - 2006-2007 Estimates and Performance of the Office of the Auditor General of Canada.
- Report 6 - Managment of Programs for First Nations.
- Report 7 - Canada Revenue Agency: Collection of Income Tax Debts.
Among its recommendations, the Committee called on the Government to fill long-standing gaps in the provision of services to Canada’s First Nations and in the Canada Revenue Agency’s processes for collecting outstanding income tax debt.
"I am very pleased with the good progress made by the Committee so far," said Committee Chair, the Hon. Shawn Murphy (Lib, Charlottetown). "I would like to congratulate Committee Members from all parties who have worked together in a non-partisan, co-operative spirit to produce constructive recommendations on issues brought to our attention by the Auditor General of Canada, Mrs. Sheila Fraser."
