Bill C-10
Ottawa, November 14, 2006
The House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights announces that as part of its study of Bill C-10, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (minimum penalties for offences involving firearms) and to make a consequential amendment to another Act, it will hold a public hearing in Toronto, on Thursday, November 23, 2006, at the Holiday Inn Select, Toronto International Airport, 970 Dixon Road (416) 675-7611. – Trillium Room “A”, starting at 9:30 a.m.
This bill would amend the Criminal Code to provide for mandatory minimum penalties for a variety of firearms offences, including offences linked to a criminal organization, or in which a restricted firearm, such as a handgun, is used. It would also create two new offences: breaking and entering to steal a firearm and robbery to steal a firearm.
This hearing is part of the study of the bill being undertaken by the Justice Committee of the House of Commons. The input from this hearing will contribute to the Committee’s recommendations and report to Parliament.
Those interested in appearing before the Committee in Toronto are invited to submit their request in writing to the Committee Clerk by November 21, 2006. Please send request to:

The Clerk will communicate with those selected to appear to provide necessary information concerning the time of the Committee’s hearing, the time allowed for a presentation, and other details.
Those not selected or unable to appear before the Committee may still make their views known. Written submissions (of no more than 10 pages) may be submitted to the Clerk no later than January 19, 2007 and they will be made available to members of the Committee. Submissions may be sent to:
