Dissenting Opinion —
Conservative Party of Canada

While the Conservative Party understands the importance of researching and producing reports on the relevant issues that confront women in Canadian society, the Conservative Party cannot support the amended motion introduced by the member from London–Fanshawe on March 27, 2007 at the Standing Committee on the Status of Women Canada.

The Conservative Party feels that this motion is unnecessary as the first two reports listed will be posted on the Status of Women Web site. As well, it should be noted that the Agency has in the past exercised its right under section GC11–1b of the contract to forfeit it’s right to reproduce reports. It should also be noted that the authors of the reports not being printed by Status of Women are free to seek publication elsewhere provided they give appropriate acknowledgement of the financial assistance provided by Status of Women as per section 11–1d of their contracts.
