Ottawa, November 30, 2006 -

TO ALL CANADIANS

The House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women is studying the potential impact of changes to the level of funding to Status of Women Canada and to the terms and conditions relating to the Women’s Program in that department.

The committee will hold hearings on this issue in Ottawa on February 7th and 14th, 2007, and will be directly contacting the groups selected to appear.

The Committee will be accepting briefs on this question from groups and individuals from across Canada who will not have the opportunity to appear before the committee.

In order to present a brief on this topic, it must be submitted to the committee’s mailbox at FEWO@parl.gc.ca by no later than Wednesday February 14th, 2007. Briefs must be a maximum of one page in length (maximum 500 words), outlining the potential impacts of

  • the changes to the terms and conditions of the Women’s Program and/or
  • the reduction in the administrative budget of Status of Women Canada.

Should there be any changes, updated information will be available on the committee’s website at www.parl.gc.ca/FEWO.
