The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in a televised session at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Peter Goldring, Francine Lalonde, Hon. Keith Martin, Alexa McDonough, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Kevin Sorenson, Peter Van Loan and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Nina Grewal for Bill Casey and Caroline St-Hilaire for Diane Bourgeois.

 

Associate Members present: Ted Menzies.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Principal.

 

Appearing: Hon. Josée Verner, Minister of International Cooperation.

 

Witnesses: International Criminal Court: Philippe Kirsch, President. Canadian International Development Agency: Robert Greenhill, President; Suzanne Laporte, Vice-president, Americas Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing session with Philippe Kirsch, President of the International Criminal Court.
 

Philippe Kirsch made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 10, 2006, the Committee resumed a study of Canada's role in complex international interventions that involve multiple foreign policy instruments focusing on Canada's efforts in Haiti.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with Robert Greenhill and Suzane Laporte, answered questions.

 

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
