The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Rob Anders, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Roger Gaudet, Betty Hinton, Gilles-A. Perron, Anthony Rota, Bev Shipley, David Sweet, Hon. Robert Thibault and Roger Valley.

 

Acting Members present: Dennis Bevington for Peter Stoffer and Hon. Keith Martin for Brent St. Denis.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Greg Francis Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: Jack Stagg, Deputy Minister; Verna Bruce, Associate Deputy Minister. Veterans Review and Appeal Board: Victor Marchand, Chair.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2006-2007: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15 under VETERANS AFFAIRS, referred to the Committee on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

By unanimous consent, Votes 1, 5, 10 and 15, less the amounts voted in Interim Supply, under VETERANS AFFAIRS carried.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Chair report Votes 1, 5, 10 and 15, less the amounts voted in Interim Supply, under VETERANS AFFAIRS to the House.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Bev Shipley, it was agreed, — That this committee invite all interested stakeholders to the committee table in order to gather their input and provide the committee with their guidance on Veterans Affairs, the Veterans Bill of Rights, and on a Veterans Ombudsman.

 

At 5:14 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
