The Subcommittee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 208 West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: John Cannis, Hon. Mark Eyking, Peter Julian, Ted Menzies, Pierre A. Paquette and Belinda Stronach.

 

Acting Members present: Derek Lee for Hon. Marlene Jennings.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Analyst; Michael Holden, Analyst.

 
The Clerk of the Subcommittee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee schedule its meeting on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m..

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee retain the services of one or more analyst(s) from the Library of Parliament, as needed, to assist the Subcommittee in its work, at the discretion of the Chair.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite Officials from Foreign Affairs and International Trade to brief the Subcommittee on Canada-U.S. relations and emerging markets.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite the Minister of International Trade to brief the Subcommittee on various issues.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair be authorized to hold meetings to receive evidence when a quorum is not present provided that at least two (2) members are present including a member of the opposition.

 

It was agreed, — That the length of witnesses opening statements and the time allocated to rounds of questioning be at the discretion of the Chair.

 

On motion of Derek Lee, it was agreed, — That, except for amendments to bills, twenty-four (24) hours’ notice be given before any substantive motion is considered by the Subcommittee; and That the motion be filed with the Clerk of the Subcommittee and circulated to members in both official languages. Upon receipt of the notice, the Clerk shall put the motion on the agenda of the Subcommittee’s next meeting..

 

At 4:23 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
