Meeting No. 23

Monday, March 7, 2005

The Standing Committee on Industry, Natural Resources, Science and Technology met at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 269 West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Serge Cardin, Michael Chong, Paul Crête, John Duncan, Brian Masse, Lynn Myers, Hon. Jerry Pickard, Andy Savoy, Werner Schmidt, Brent St. Denis and Bradley R. Trost.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst ; Dan Shaw, Analyst.

Witnesses: Canadian Textiles Institute: Harvey Penner, Chairman; Elizabeth Siwicki, President. Canadian Apparel Federation: Elliot Lifson, President; Bob Kirke, Executive Director. UNITE HERE Canada: Alex Dagg, Canadian Director. Apparel Manufacturers Institute of Quebec: Randy Rotchin, Director, Board of Directors.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That three (3) meetings on Main Estimates be scheduled with the following witnesses: Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission; Canadian Tourism Commission; and the Hon. David Emerson, Minister of Industry.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 16, 2004, the Committee resumed its study on Canada's Industrial Strategy, Regulatory and Foreign Investment Frameworks.

Harvey Penner, Elliot Lifson, Alex Dagg and Randy Rotchin made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:27 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
