The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:34 a.m. this day, in Room 536 Wellington Building, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Raynald Blais, Rodger Cuzner, Loyola Hearn, Randy Kamp, Shawn Murphy, Jean-Yves Roy, Scott Simms, Peter Stoffer and Tom Wappel.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an Individual: Paul Brodie. Office of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development: Johanne Gélinas, Commissioner. Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Michaela Huard, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy; Serge Labonté, Director General, Fisheries, Environment and Biodiversity Science. Department of Transport: Gerard A. McDonald, Director General, Marine Safety. Department of the Environment: Robert McLean, Director General, Conservation Strategies. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (International Trade): Paul Martin, Director, Technical Barriers and Regulations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Aquatic Invasive Species.
 

By unanimous consent, on motion of Jean-Yves Roy, it was agreed, — That no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2005 the Department of Fisheries and Oceans present to the Clerk of the Committee, in both official languages, the report by Mr. Robert Melvin that is referred to on page 40 of the 2004 Southern Salmon Fishery Post-Season Review; and that if the report is not received by this deadline, the Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Oceans or, if he is unavoidably unavailable the Assistant Deputy Minister, be summoned to appear before the Committee on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 to explain the reasons for not providing the report.

 

Gerard A. McDonald, Paul Brodie, Paul Martin, Michaela Huard and Serge Labonté made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 11:26 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
