The Standing Committee on Finance met at 11:11 a.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Chair, Massimo Pacetti, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rona Ambrose, Don H. Bell, Guy Côté, Charles Hubbard, John McKay, Maria Minna, Massimo Pacetti, Brian Pallister, Charlie Penson, Monte Solberg and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Bouchard for Yvan Loubier, Peter Goldring for Rona Ambrose, Deepak Obhrai for Brian Pallister, Russ Powers for Don H. Bell and Lynne Yelich for Charlie Penson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Principal; Alexandre Laurin, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: House of Commons: John Duncan, M.P., Vancouver Island North.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Unreported Transactions from Financial Services Companies neither liscensed nor regulated (FINTRAC).
 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, January 31, 2005, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-259, An Act to amend the Excise Tax Act (elimination of excise tax on jewellery).
 

John Duncan made a statement and answered questions. The Hon.

 

John McKay moved, — That Bill C-259 be dismissed.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 6.

 

At 11:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:46 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 11:53 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
