Meeting No. 6

Wednesday, November 3, 2004

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met jointly with the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs at 4:07 p.m. this day, in Room 160-S Centre Block, Bernard Patry, Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and Peter A. Stollery, Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Stockwell Day, Francine Lalonde, Lawrence MacAulay, Dan McTeague, Ted Menzies, Bernard Patry, Beth Phinney and Kevin Sorenson.

Acting Members present: Peter Goldring for Belinda Stronach.

Associate Members present: Don Boudria.

Members of the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs: Honourable Senators Raynell Andreychuk, Tommy Banks, Pierre De Bané, Eymard G. Corbin, Jerahmiel S. Grafstein, Marcel Prud'homme, Fernand Robichaud.

Other Senators Present: Honourable Senators Lorna Milne and Vivienne Poy.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marcus Pistor, Analyst ; Blayne Haggart, Analyst . Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs : François Michaud, Clerk, Senate Committees Directorate.

Delegation: German-Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Group of the German Bundestag: Ursula Lietz, Chairwoman; Monika Heubaum, First Deputy Chairwoman ; Sibylle Laurischk, Second Deputy Chairwoman ; Bernhard Brinkmann, Member ; Klaus-Peter Flosbach, Member ; Otto Eberhard, Member.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 20, 2004, the Committee, with the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs proceeded to meet a delegation from German Bundestag.

Ursula Lietz made a statement and with the other delegates answered questions.

At 4:15 p.m. Kevin Sorenson, Vice-Chair took the Chair.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
