The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met in a televised session at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Chair, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Sue Barnes, André Bellavance, Bernard Cleary, Jeremy Harrison, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Gary Lunn, Jim Prentice, Carol Skelton, David Smith, Lloyd St. Amand and Roger Valley.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst. House of Commons: Joann Garbig, Legislative Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Dogrib Treaty 11 Council: Charlie Jim Nitsiza, Deputy Grand Chief; John B. Zoe, Chief Negotiator; Eddie Erasmus. Pape and Salter: Bertha Rabesca Zoe, Legal Counsel; Colin Jesse Salter, Legal Counsel; Richard B. Salter, Legal Counsel.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, November 2, 2004, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-14, An Act to give effect to a land claims and self-government agreement among the Tlicho, the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Government of Canada, to make related amendments to the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

Charlie Jim Nitsiza made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

 

John B. Zoe made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That December 2, 2004 be the last meeting with witnesses appearing on Bill C-14.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the members of the Committee submit to the Clerk of the Committee all of their proposed amendments to Bill C-14 no later than 5:00 p.m. on December 3, 2004

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee start clause by clause of Bill C-14 on December 7, 2004.

 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
