The Standing Committee on Transport met in a televised session at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Raymond Bonin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Raymond Bonin, John Cannis, Bev Desjarlais, Jim Gouk, Charles Hubbard, Ovid Jackson, Christian Jobin, Jim Karygiannis, Mario Laframboise, James Moore and Susan Whelan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Tony Valeri, Minister of Transport.

 

Witnesses: Department of Transport: Kristine Burr, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy Group; Louis Ranger, Deputy Minister. Canadian Air Transport Security Authority: Barry Corbett, Director, Screening Operations; Jacques Duchesneau, President and Chief Executive Officer; Ian S. MacKay, Vice-President, Law, Policy and Corporate Secretary; Michael J. McLaughlin, Vice-President and Chief Financial Officier.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2004-2005: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 under Transport referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 24, 2004.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with Louis Ranger and Christine Burr, answered questions.

 

At 12:40 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:48 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing session on Security Matters.
 

Jacques Duchesneau made an opening statement and, with Ian MacKay and Barry Corbett, answered questions.

 

At 1:21 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
