The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 8:30 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Chair, Hon. Don Boudria, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Don Boudria, Claude Drouin, Yvon Godin, Christian Jobin, James Lunney, Marcel Proulx, Scott Reid, Benoît Sauvageau and Raymond Simard.

 

Acting Members present: Gérard Binet for Eugène Bellemare.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Denis Coderre, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada; Hon. Hélène Scherrer, Minister of Canadian Heritage.

 

Witnesses: Department of Canadian Heritage: Judith A. LaRocque, Deputy Minister; Eileen Sarkar, Assistant Deputy Minister, Citizenship and Heritage; Hilaire Lemoine, Director General, Official Languages Support Programs; René Bouchard, Director General, Broadcasting Policy and Innovation. Public Service Human Resources Management Agency of Canada: Diana Monnet, Vice-President, Official Languages.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), the Committee commenced its study of the Summary of past and future official languages initiatives at Canadian Heritage.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 9:48 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:59 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), the Committee commenced its study on the Summary of past and future official languages initiatives from the Public Service Human Resources Management Agency of Canada.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

On motion of Yvon Godin, ORDERED, — That the Canadian Cable Television Association be summoned to appear before the Committee from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on April 20, 2004, on the question of broadcasting of the public affairs channel CPAC .

 

At 10:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
