The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Binet, Paul Crête, Hon. Joe Fontana, Brian Masse, James Rajotte, Andy Savoy, Brent St. Denis and Hon. Lyle Vanclief.

 

Acting Members present: John Harvard for Marlene Jennings.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst; Sam Banks, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Industry: Michael M. Binder, Assistant Deputy Minister, Spectrum, Information Technologies and Telecommunications; John Cunningham, Counsel, Commercial Law Division Industry Canada Legal Services; Jan Skora, Director General, Radiocommunications and Broadcasting Regulatory Branch. Department of Canadian Heritage: René Bouchard, Director General, Broadcasting Policy and Innovation. Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission: Marc O'Sullivan, Executive Director, Broadcasting Directorate; Jacques Langlois, Director General, Broadcasting Policy Group.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, February 17, 2004, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-2, An Act to amend the Radiocommunication Act.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

On motion of Andy Savoy, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 12,500, for the period of April 27, 2004 to June 30, 2004 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 12:55 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:56 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 1:08 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
