Meeting No. 7

Monday, May 5, 2003

The Subcommittee on Electoral Boundaries Readjustment of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met at 3:46 p.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Paddy Torsney, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present:  Rick Borotsik, Scott Reid and Paddy Torsney.

Acting Members present:  Brent St-Denis for Marcel Proulx; Libby Davies for Yvon Godin.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Robertson, Principal; John Wright, Research Officer; Gérald Lafrenière, Research Officer.  From the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada:  André Cyr, Project Manager, Electoral Geography Division, Register and Geography Directorate.

Witnesses:  From the House of Commons:  Peter Goldring, Edmonton Centre-East; John Williams, St. Albert; Bob Mills, Red Deer; Betty Hinton, Kamloops, Thompson and Highland Valleys; Jim Gouk, Kootenay--Boundary--Okanagan; Val Meredith, South Surrey--White Rock--Langley; John Cummins, Delta--South Richmond.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs on Thursday, November 7, 2002, the Subcommittee commenced consideration of the matter of the objections to the report of the electoral boundaries commission for Alberta.

Peter Goldring made a statement and answered questions.

John Williams made a statement and answered questions.

Bob Mills made a statement and answered questions.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs on Thursday, November 7, 2002, the Subcommittee commenced consideration of the matter of the objections to the report of the electoral boundaries commission for British Columbia.

Betty Hinton made a statement and answered questions.

Jim Gouk made a statement and answered questions.

John Cummins made a statement and answered questions.
