MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 34

Wednesday, June 4, 2003

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in camera at 4:01 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Odina Desrochers, Paul Forseth, Val Meredith, Shawn Murphy and John Williams.

Acting Members present: Raymond Bonin for Mac Harb; Yvon Charbonneau for Massimo Pacetti; Ovid Jackson for Tony Tirabassi.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Analysts.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of a draft report on Chapter 1 (Human Resources Development Canada - The Integrity of the Social Insurance Number) of the September 2002 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, May 28, 2003, meeting No. 32)

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the Report as the SIXTEENTH REPORT of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair table the SIXTEENTH REPORT in the House.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), and a motion of the Committee dated February 12, 2003, the Committee resumed consideration of a draft report on the Public Accounts of Canada 2001-2002, Volume 2, Part II, Section 3 - Losses of Public Money or Property. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, May 28, 2003, meeting No. 32)

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the Report as the SEVENTEENTH REPORT of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair table the SEVENTEENTH REPORT in the House.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of a draft report on Chapter 4 (National Defence - NATO Flying Training in Canada) of the September 2002 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Monday, June 2, 2003, meeting No. 33)

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the Report as the EIGHTEENTH REPORT of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair table the EIGHTEENTH REPORT in the House.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee commenced consideration of a draft report on Chapter 8 (Public Works and Government Services Canada - Acquisition of Office Space) of the December 2002 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the Report as the NINETEENTH REPORT of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair table the NINETEENTH REPORT in the House.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

At 4:12 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
