The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.
Member(s) of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Norman Doyle, Raymonde Folco, Peter Goldring, Judi Longfield, Gurbax Malhi, Raymond Simard, Larry Spencer, Diane St-Jacques, Alan Tonks and Suzanne Tremblay.
Acting Member(s) present: Carolyn Bennett for John R. Efford, Wendy Lill for Libby Davies from 11:08 to 12:00 and Yvon Godin for Libby Davies from 12:00 to 1:07.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr and Bill Young, Research Officers.
Appearing: From the Department of Human Resources Development: The Hon. Jane Stewart, Minister of Human Resources Development.
Witness(es): From the Department of Human Resources Development: Margaret Biggs, Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Investment Programs.
The Committee proceeded to discuss the drafting of a report on the Disability Tax Credit.
At 11:46 a.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 11:46 a.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in public.
On motion by Alan Tonks, it was agreed, - That the budget in the amount of $100,800 for the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities; in the amount of $134,300 for the Subcommittee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities and, in the amount of $25,250 for the Subcommittee on Children & Youth at Risk be adopted.
At 11:48 a.m., the sitting was suspended.
At 12:10 p.m., the sitting resumed in a televised session.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) the Committee proceeded to a briefing in relation to skills and learning.
Hon. Jane Stewart made a statement and answered questions.
At 1:07 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
