The Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:23 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Judi Longfield, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Judi Longfield, Gurbax Malhi, Raymond Simard, Monte Solberg and Diane St-Jacques.
Acting Member present: Sébastien Gagnon for Suzanne Tremblay.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin and Kevin Kerr, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Correctional Service Canada: Don Head, Senior Deputy Commissioner. From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Rosaline Frith, Director General, Integration. From the John Howard Society of Canada: Graham Stewart, Executive Director. From the Maytree Foundation: Elizabeth McIsaac, Manager. From the Y Women of Montreal: France-Line Carbonneau, Coordinator, Family Literacy Program, Joindre l'Est à l'Ouest; Zaïa Ferani, Project Leader, Literacy Center.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Literacy.
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
