Meeting No. 3

Wednesday, November 20, 2002

The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:42 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Bonnie Brown, Jeannot Castonguay, James Lunney, Réal Ménard, Rob Merrifield, Yolande Thibeault.

Other Member present: Paul Szabo.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier and Sonya Norris, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Ottawa Hospital: Arthur Leader, MD., FRCSC., Professor, Obstetrics, Gynecology and Medicine, University of Ottawa, Chief, Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. From Repromed Limited: Cathy Ruberto, Assistant Clinical Director. From the Canadian Medical Association: Eugene Bereza, Chair, Committee on Ethics; John Williams, Director of Ethics.

The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-13, An Act respecting assisted human reproduction, (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, November 19, 2002, Meeting No. 2).

Arthur Leader, Cathy Ruberto and Eugene Bereza made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:14 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:16 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

At 5:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
