The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 11:35 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Sue Barnes, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Rick Casson, Roy Cullen, Nick Discepola, Albina Guarnieri, Richard Harris, Sophia Leung, The Hon. Maria Minna, The Hon. Lorne Nystrom, Pierre Paquette, Bryon Wilfert.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Acting Principal Analyst; Marc-André Pigeon, Analyst.

Witnesses: As Individual: Dr. Douglas Peters, Economist; Dr. Arthur Donner, Economist and Consultant; Prof. Jean Roy, Full Professor of Finance, University of Montreal. From the Investment Dealers Association of Canada: Joseph Oliver, President and Chief Executive Officer; Jon Cockerline, Director, Capital Markets.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee resumed its study on the public interest implications of large bank mergers.

Dr. Douglas Peters, Dr. Arthur Donner, Prof. Jean Roy and Joseph Oliver made a statement and answered questions.

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
