The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Roy Bailey, Joe Jordan, Bob Mills, Julian Reed, Hélène Scherrer, Paul Szabo and Alan Tonks.

 

Acting Members present: David A. Anderson for Gary Lunn, Christian Jobin for Andy Savoy, Dominic LeBlanc for Mark Assad, Judi Longfield for Charles L. Caccia, Jean-Yves Roy for Bernard Bigras, Raymond Simard for Hélène Scherrer and Diane St-Jacques for Rick Laliberte.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: International Institute for Sustainable Development: David Runnalls, President.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Julian Reed, it was agreed, — That Charles Caccia be elected Chair of the Committee, in absentia.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Vice-Chairs.

Roy Bailey moved, — That Bob Mills be elected as Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Joe Jordan moved, — That John Herron be elected as Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(3), the election was conducted by secret ballot.

The ballots having been counted, Bob Mills was declared duly elected as Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

On motion of Bob Mills, it was agreed, — That Paul Szabo be elected as Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

At 3:41 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:47 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

By unanimous consent, Paul Szabo took the Chair.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the meeting proceed to a televised session with the witness.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study on the implementation of the commitments of the World Summit on sustainable development.
 

David Runnals made an opening statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:47 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
