Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Bryden (Ancaster -- Dundas -- Flamborough -- Aldershot), seconded by Ms. Thibeault (Saint-Lambert), Bill C-391, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (Oath or Affirmation of Citizenship), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.


Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. MacKay (Pictou -- Antigonish -- Guysborough), seconded by Mr. Hill (Prince George -- Peace River), Bill C-392, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sex offences and violent offences), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Pursuant to Standing Order 69(2), on motion of Mr. Harvard (Charleswood St. James -- Assiniboia), seconded by Mr. Bagnell (Yukon), Bill S-7, An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act, was read the first time and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Mr. Clark (Calgary Centre), seconded by Mrs. Wayne (Saint John), moved, -- That the First Report of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs, presented on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, be concurred in.

PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS

At 5:30 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.

Mr. Benoit (Lakeland), seconded by Mr. Casson (Lethbridge), moved, -- That, in the opinion of this House, the government should compensate farmers for damage done to livestock and crops by gophers resulting from the banning of effective concentration of strychnine thereby removing the ability of farmers to control gophers on their lands. (Private Members' Business M-13)

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Standing Order 96(1), the Order was dropped from the Order Paper.
