Motions

Pursuant to Standing Order 56.1, Mr. Boudria (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), seconded by Mr. Kilgour (Secretary of State (Latin America and Africa)), moved, -- That on June 13, 2001, at 5:15 p.m., or when the Business of Supply in the present Supply period is concluded, whichever is later, any proceedings before the House shall be interrupted and all questions necessary to dispose, at the third reading stage, of Bill C-11, An Act respecting immigration to Canada and the granting of refugee protection to persons who are displaced, persecuted or in danger, and Bill C-24, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (organized crime and law enforcement) and to make consequential amendments to other Acts, and to dispose of Government Business No. 7 shall be put forthwith and successively without further debate or amendment; provided that no division requested thereon may be deferred and that if the House is not sitting at that time, a special sitting shall be convened for the purposes of this Order; and

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

STATEMENT BY THE SPEAKER

The Speaker ruled that Bill S-15, An Act to enable and assist the Canadian tobacco industry in attaining its objective of preventing the use of tobacco products by young persons in Canada, was improperly before the House and declared the first reading proceedings null and void.

Accordingly, the Order for the second reading of the Bill was discharged and the item was dropped from the Order Paper.
