MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 53

Tuesday, May 7, 2002

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in camera at 3:52 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, John Bryden, Odina Desrochers, Paul Forseth, Sophia Leung, Philip Mayfield, Beth Phinney, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.

Acting Member present: Val Meredith for Rahim Jaffer.

Associate Member present: Val Meredith.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of the draft Report on Chapter 10 (National Defence - In Service Equipment) of the December 2001 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of proceedings of Thursday, February 21, 2002, meeting No. 41)

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the Report as the TWENTIETH REPORT of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair Table the TWENTIETH REPORT to the House.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of the draft Report on Chapter 10 (Transport Canada - Airport Transfers: National Airports System) of the October 2000 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, November 20, 2001, meeting No. 32)

It was agreed, - That the Auditor General be requested to review the safety and security aspects of airport operations.

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the Report, as amended, as the TWENTY-FIRST REPORT of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair Table the TWENTY-FIRST REPORT to the House.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of the draft Report on Chapter 31 (Fisheries and Oceans - Fleet Management) of the December 2000 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, October 23, 2001, meeting No. 27)

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the Report, as amended, as the TWENTY SECOND REPORT of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair Table the TWENTY-SECOND REPORT to the House.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

At 4:52 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
