The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: John Bryden, Odina Desrochers, John Finlay, Mac Harb, Sophia Leung, Shawn Murphy, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.
Acting Members present: Leon Benoit for Philip Mayfield; Marcel Proulx for Beth Phinney; Val Meredith for Myron Thompson.
Associate Members present: Leon Benoit and Val Meredith.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Michael McLaughlin, Deputy Auditor General; Maria Barrados, Assistant Auditor General; Doug Timmins, Assistant Auditor General; Hugh McRobert, Assistant Auditor General.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider the April 2002 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.
It was agreed, - That the letter dated April 10, 2002 addressed to John Williams, Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, from Michael J. McLaughlin, Deputy Auditor General, with regard to Recruitment of Canada’s Future Public Service, Chapters 2 and 3 of the December 2001 Report of the Auditor General of Canada, be printed as an appendix to this day’s Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence. (See Appendix “PACC-3”)
Sheila Fraser made a statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2002.
