The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Bonnie Brown, Rob Merrifield, Hélène Scherrer, Judy Sgro, Carol Skelton, Yolande Thibeault.

Acting Member(s) present: Bernard Bigras for Diane Bourgeois, Murray Calder for Bob Speller, Paul Szabo for Stan Dromisky.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier; Sonya Norris and Monique Hébert, Research Officers.

Witnesses: As Individual: André Duhaime; Olga Prin; Christina Caron. From the Municipality of Chelsea: Andrea Lockwood. From Real Alternatives to Toxins in the Environment: Helen Jones, EdD, Board Member. From the Ontario Corn Producers' Association: Ken Hough, Director of Research and Market Development. From the Planetary Association for Clean Energy Inc.: Andrew Michrowski, PhD, President. From McMaster University: Margaret Sandborn, MD, CCFP, Associate Clinical Professor of Family Medicine. As Individual: Dawna J. Ring, Q.C..

The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-53, An Act to protect human health and safety and the environment by regulating products used for the control of pests (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, April 16, 2002, Meeting No. 66).

The witnesses made statement and answered questions.

At 12:56 p.m. the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

At 1:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
