Meeting No. 60
Wednesday, April 10, 2002
The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Yvon Charbonneau, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Joe Fontana, Paul Forseth, Steve Mahoney, Inky Mark, Anita Neville, Jerry Pickard, David Price, Lynne Yelich.
Acting Members present: Diane Ablonczy for Art Hanger and Louis Plamondon for Stéphan Tremblay.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin; Margaret Young, Researchers.
Pursuant to its mandate under Standing Order 108(2) and its order of February 4, 2002, the Committee began its study on “Competing for Immigrants”.
Witnesses: From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Daniel Jean, Director General, International Region; Rénald Gilbert, Director, Asia and Pacific, International Region; Anton Jurkovich, Director, Europe, International Region; Lea Vachon, Head, Visits and Protocol Unit, Management Services Division International Region.
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
It was agreed, – That a questionnaire related to the Committee’s study be sent to all Canadian missions to be visited.
It was agreed, - That the Committee put out a Press release announcing the study it is undertaking entitled “Competing for Immigrants”.
It was agreed, - That the Committee during its visits abroad present souvenir gifts to foreign government representatives who will be participating in the Committee’s study on “Competing for Immigrants.
At 5:12 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
