Thursday, March 22, 2001

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Jean Augustine, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Joe Fontana, Gurmant Grewal, John Herron, Steve Mahoney, Gurbax Malhi, Inky Mark, Anita Neville, Yolande Thibeault, Lynne Yelich.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jay Sinha, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada: Sally Brown, Senior Vice-President. From the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers: Marie Lemay, Chief Executive Officer; Noel Cleland, Chairman; Digvir Jayas, Chairperson. Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, February 27, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-11, An Act respecting immigration to Canada and the granting of refugee protection to persons who are displaced, persecuted or in danger (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, March 1st, 2001, Meeting No. 2).
