The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Mark Assad, Yvon Charbonneau, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Joe Fontana, Paul Forseth, Art Hanger, Steve Mahoney, Inky Mark, Anita Neville, Jerry Pickard, Judy Wasylycia-Leis, Lynne Yelich.
Acting Member present: Guy St-Julien for David Price.
Other Member present: Jim Karygiannis.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin and Margaret Young, Researchers.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) – the Committee began its review of Regulations under the new Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Appearing: From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration: The Honourable Denis Coderre, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.
The Minister made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 10:00 a.m. the sitting was suspended.
At 10:05 a.m. the sitting was resumed.
Witnesses: From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Joan Atkinson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Program Development; Daniel Therrien, Director General, Refugees; Mark Davidson, Director, Economic Policy and Programs, Selection; Nicole Girard, Acting Director, Legislative Review, Enforcement.
Joan Atkinson made an opening statement and with the witnesses answered questions.
At 12:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
