Tuesday, November 9, 1999

The Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Hawthorne Hall, Sheraton Four Points Hotel, Toronto, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roy Cullen, Ken Epp, Albina Guarnieri, Monte Solberg and Paul Szabo.

Acting Member present: Bill Graham for Sophia Leung.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore; Jean Soucy, Researchers and Marion Wrobel, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: Roundtable I - From the National Association of Women and the Law: Kim Brooks, Member, Fiscal Policies Working Group. From the Toronto Disaster Relief Committee: Kira Heineck, Coordinator. From the Committee on Monetary and Economic Reform: William Krehm, Chairman. From the Economic Community Starting Centre: Job Creation Inc.: Monique Bokya-Lokumo, Director; Mimi Mapasa, Coordinator. From the National Action Committee on the Status of Women: Joan Grant-Cummings, President. From the Ontario Coalition of Senior Citizens' Organizations: Hank Goldberg, Vice-President.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its Pre-Budget Consultations. (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, November 2, 1999, Meeting No. 2).

Kim Brooks, Kira Heineck, William Krehm, Monique Bokya-Lokumo, Joan Grant-Cummings and Hank Goldberg made statements and, with the other participants in roundtable I, answered questions.

At 9:49 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:52 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Michael Harrison, Sarah Iley, Hal Jackman, Donald Johnson, Anne Golden, Ian Morrison, Laura Brownell and Christopher Moore made statements and, with the other participants in roundtable II, answered questions.

At 11:26 a.m., Roy Cullen took the Chair.

At 11:29 a.m., the Chair took the Chair.

At 12:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
