MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 40

Tuesday, November 17, 1998

The Standing Committee on Transport met in camera at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Ray Bonin, presiding.

Members of the Committee Committee present: Rob Anders, Roy Bailey, Ray Bonin,, Bill Casey, Roy Cullen, Stan Dromisky, Claude Drouin, Michel Guimond, Ovid Jackson, Stan Keyes, Lee Morrison, Lou Sekora.

Acting Member present: Sarkis Assadourian for John Cannis.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Research Officer.

 

It was moved, --That this Committee invite the Minister of Transport to appear before this Committee at the earliest opportunity, but no later than December 2, 1998, in order to review Transport Canada's Performance Report (for the period ending March 31, 1998) and Supplementary Estimates (B) (for the Fiscal year ending March 31, 1999) and explain their spending priorities for:

a) the Department of Transport

b) the Canadian Transportation Agency

 It was moved, --That the motion be amended by removing : "but no later than December 2, 1998".

The question was put on the amendment and it was agreed to.

The question being put on the main motion, as amended, it was agreed to.

 It was moved, --That the subject of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) be the fourth subject added on the list of future business along with National Highway Systems, Aviation User Fees and National Rail Passenger Policy before the Committee decide on the study to undertake in the following months.

After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

It was moved, --That ITS be the subject of the Committee's next area of study which also include the toll issue.

After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was by show of hands, agreed to.

At 4:44 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
