Tuesday, November 18, 1997.

The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 11:05 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 371, West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Asselin, Gilles Bernier, David Chatters, Roy Cullen, Raymonde Folco, Yvon Godin, Ovid L. Jackson, Jerry Pickard, Carmen Provenzano, Darrel Stinson and Brent St. Denis.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: : Jean-Luc Bourdages, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers: David Manning, President; Chris Peirce, Vice President, Strategic Planning. From the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association: Mark A. Nantais, President; Jim Lanigan, Manager, Chrysler Canada Limited; Carol A. Moreau, Manager, Government Relations, Ford Motor Company Canada Limited; Roger Thomas, Manager, General Motors of Canada Limited. From the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association: Claude Roy, Senior Director, Environment, Health and Safety Programs; Lucie Desforges, Director, Environment and Energy; Doug Bradley, Director, Corporate Planning. From the Conference Board of Canada: Gilles Rheaume, Vice-President, Policy, Business and Society; Al Howatson, Research Associate. In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), an examination of the issues surrounding the Kyoto Conference on Climate Change.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 12:13 o'clock p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:15 o'clock p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 1:10 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
