Tuesday, March 10, 1998

The Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Government Operations met at 11:05 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 308, West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Réginald Bélair, Gerry Byrne, David Chatters, Roy Cullen, Pierre de Savoye, Ovid L. Jackson, Carmen Provenzano, Ben Serré, Brent St. Denis and Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From Natural Resources Canada: Dr. Marc Denis Everell, Assistant Deputy Minister, Earth Sciences Sector; Dr. Edryd Shaw, Director General, Canada Centre for Remote Sensing; Dr. Janet King, Director, Continental Geoscience Division; Linda Keen, Assistant Deputy Minister, Minerals & Metals Sector; Jean-Claude St-Pierre, Director General, Mineral Technology Branch; Robert Hargreaves, Director, Mining and Mineral Science Laboratories.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), consideration of knowledge and technology based industries in the Natural Resources Sector.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 12:30 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
